Ryan Mech — 1st Degree Black Belt

Head Coach — Adult No Gi Program

Training since 2007 Head No Gi Coach

Ryan is a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu under Toma Dragicevic through Robson Moura and the head coach of Current Jiu Jitsu's adult No Gi program. He started training in 2007 and has been hooked ever since. Ryan is always studying to improve upon his technical ability and working to be a better practitioner and teacher for the next generation of students.

IBJJF Certified Black Belt in <6 Years

Brendon is an IBJJF certified black belt and head of the Gi program at Current BJJ. He is regarded as a fanatic of jiu jitsu throughout the community and is well-known for earning his black belt in less than 6 years. Brendon is not only a dedicated coach, but also a life-long student of jiu jitsu. Whether he is teaching a class or learning from another instructor, he is someone who will always be on the mats growing and developing.

IBJJF Certified 16+ Years NAGA World Champion

John is an IBJJF certified black belt who has been practicing BJJ for over 16 years. He has an extensive competition background, and has won world championships in both Gi and No-Gi tournaments including NAGA Worlds 2015. He is a dedicated coach who has a passion for developing solid fundamentals in the beginner Gi program.

Co-Founder Head Kids Coach

Austin Brown is a co-founder of Current Jiu Jitsu and the head instructor of the Current Kids Team. Austin's goals since 2021 has been to create a dynamic kids team that can grow into future leaders at the academy. Teaching kids to lead with confidence, strong morals, and an unbreakable mindset is the primary focus. Under the guidance of our black belt roster, Austin will look to accomplish his goal of having multiple IBJJF champions within a roster of high level colour belts to guide the next generation of Current Kids.

Nicholas Schembri — Blue Belt

Kids Instructor — Ages 5–10

First Current Blue Belt Kids Specialist

Nicholas Schembri is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt under Current BJJ. He was the first student to enroll in the kids' program and the first to earn a blue belt in December 2024. Nicholas is committed to improving his classes daily and ensures new students feel welcomed to Jiu-Jitsu. He specializes in teaching kids ages 5-10. He is dedicated to enhancing both his skills in the adult program and his teaching abilities. He will continue to focus on helping new students feel comfortable and confident in the sport as they begin their jiu jitsu journey.
